Yerettê - Home of the Hummingbird
Trinidad and Tobago
At a glance
Yerettê, also known as Home of the Hummingbird, is a hummingbird attraction at 88 Valley View in Maracas, St Joseph. Set in the lush Maracas Valley within Trinidad’s Northern Range, the venue offers an educational nature experience centred on the hummingbirds of Trinidad and Tobago.
Visits are arranged by appointment and follow fixed tour times. Each session begins with an introductory talk about hummingbirds before moving outdoors for a garden walk. Hummingbirds are usually present in large numbers, and up to 15 of the 18 species found in Trinidad and Tobago may be seen across the year. The garden setting allows visitors to observe the birds at close range while learning about their behaviour and place in the local environment.
The tour continues with a visit to the hummingbird photo gallery, which displays nature photography. Photographs from the collection are available for purchase. A photo presentation with live commentary forms the concluding part of the experience, adding further context to the birds seen during the garden walk.
Refreshments are included with each tour. Morning sessions offer a light or full breakfast, while afternoon visits include afternoon tea. Fresh homemade fruit juices are also served. Dietary requirements can be discussed when a booking is made, allowing the venue to make suitable arrangements where possible.
With its combination of a garden visit, natural-history interpretation, photography and refreshments, Yerettê suits birdwatchers, photographers, families and visitors looking for an organised activity in the Northern Range. Tours are limited in size, creating a more focused setting for observation and discussion. The experience is also suited to educational outings, although appointments are required before arrival.
