Description
Nariva Swamp is the largest freshwater mangrove swamp in Trinidad & Tobago and designated a “Wetland of International Importance” under the Ramsar Convention. A short boat ride takes you into habitats where Red Howler Monkeys and White Fronted Capuchins live.
Your journey starts on the island’s eastern side, along the Manzanilla coast, known for its scenic coastal drives and extensive coconut tree plantations.
Board a small open pirogue to glide through the freshwater wetland while admiring the surrounding natural environment. The Bush Bush Sanctuary, a peninsula in the wetland, hosts over 200 species of birds and animals, including critically endangered monkeys.
After a short trek, you may observe the Red Howler and Capuchin monkeys feeding on Cocorite palm fruit. The tour concludes with a visit to a remote village for a glimpse into local life, followed by a stop at Manzanilla Beach and a typical local lunch (not included).
