Maracas: Day Trip to Maracas Beach from Port of Spain
12 ReviewsDiscover the popular Maracas Beach, drive along the scenic North Coast. Stop at Maracas Lookout for the stunning views and local snacks.
If you have ever wanted to find yourself in the middle of a tropical rainforest, surrounded by stunning wildlife, then a visit to the Asa Wright Nature Centre is perfect for you. Located 1,200 feet high up in the northern range, in the confines of an old cocoa-coffee-citrus plantation you will feel like you are deep in the heart of a Caribbean rainforest.
With such an abundance of nature all around you there is plenty to see, with a large population of colourful birds, crawling reptiles and fluttering butterflies. One of the aims of the centre is to teach the locals the importance of conservation through outreach programs in schools and villages. You can feel the passion the staff have for protecting the environment, and while this is a non-profit organisation it is actually one of the most successful eco-tourist locations in the world.
The most stunning vegetation tends to bloom from January until May, which is a great time to visit. The centre received an award of excellence from Trip Advisor last year and is certainly a must-see destination in Trinidad and Tobago.
