Buses

The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) runs the bus service in Trinidad and Tobago. The buses are easily recognizable painted in the national colours red, white and black, and are fully air-conditioned.

Trinidad:

Located at South Quay, Port of Spain is the main bus terminal, City Gate. It is the heart of public transport between the capital city and the towns and villages around the country. 

One way bus tickets in Trinidad range between $2 and $12 and should be bought at City Gate before boarding. Buses depart City Gate every hour, less frequently on weekends. For confirmation of schedules and fares contact (868) 623-2341.

Tobago:

Tobago’s main bus terminal is located at Sangster's Hill, Scarborough. The PTSC buses run a daily service across the island with a special service that runs from the A.N.R International Airport every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday and every hour on weekends, from 5.30am to 8:00pm.

Maxi Taxis

Privately owned maxi taxis or mini buses are the most commonly used form of public transport in Trinidad and Tobago. They are located everywhere and are a very cost effective way to get around the islands. 

The maxi taxis come in 2 sizes seating 12 or 24 persons and have a variety of coloured bands on the sides which signifies its fixed route.

Yellow Band Maxi Taxis: Western Route

Areas covered: Chaguaramas, Diego Martin, Petit Valley, St James

Hub: Corner of St Vincent Street and South Quay, Port of Spain. 

Cost: $3 to $10

 

Red Band Maxi Taxis: Eastern Route 

Areas covered: Port of Spain to as far east as Sangre Grande. 

Hub: City Gate, South Quay, Port of Spain 

Cost: $3 to $8

 

Green Band Maxi Taxis: Central Route 

Areas covered: Port of Spain to Chaguanas

Hub: City Gate, South Quay, Port of Spain 

Cost: $5

 

Black Band Maxi Taxis: Southern Route 

Areas covered: San Fernando to Princes Town and further toward to Mayaro.

 

Brown Band Maxi Taxis: Souther Route 2

Areas covered: San Fernando, Point Fortin, Cedros and Siparia

 

Blue Band Maxi Taxis: Tobago

Areas covered: These Maxi Taxis have no set routes or timetable. It is advisable to plan your day with 9pm as your cut off as this form of transport is unreliable after 9pm.
