National Museum of Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidadandtobago
Originally named the Royal Victoria Institute, the National Museum and of Trinidad and Tobago was built at height of the British Empire's power in preparation for Queen Victoria's Jubilee, as a celebration of culture.
The building is a typical Flemish renaissance with some tropical features that help deal with the heat by maintining good ventilation. As an architectural monument the building is an icon of the historic district in Trinidad and Tobago.
The displays inside tell a lot about the history of the two islands with sections devoted to festivals and carnivals as well as a focus on what life was like during WW2 and important historical artefacts from Amerindian time. The museum also frequently displays up and coming local and international artist's work, giving you the opportunity to witness a diverse range of talented artists.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take in some culture at the most important museum in Trinidad and Tobago.
